Smart WiFi router with ad filter and parental control

Challenge

To design working prototypes of a Smart CPE router for advertising filtering, blocking malicious content, and parental control.
 

Solution

We prepared a layout based on the NXP QorIQ Layerscape LS10xx debug board and Yocto Linux during the first project phase.

In addition to the basic functionality of the router, we have implemented the following features:

  • advertising filtering,
  • blocking malicious content,
  • parental control.


Then we’ve designed a custom board with the features given below:

  • NXP QorIQ Layerscape LS10xx
  • WiFi 802.11ac/b/g/n PCI-e module based on Qualcomm/Atheros chipset
  • 5 GbE RJ-45 ports
  • USB 3.0
  • 1 Gb RAM
  • 2 Gb SPI Flash ROM
  • 4 Gb eMMC 

Our manufacturing department prepared working prototypes of the device.
 

Result

Our client received full-featured device prototypes, based on which he decided on financing further project phases.

The smart router contains a processor with hardware blocks for processing network packets. The use of standard development kits (NXP and Qualcomm SDKs) and sufficient memory – RAM, ROM and eMMC – will allow the device functionality's significant scalability in the future.
