Specification and Description Language. SDL is a specification language applied for modeling behavior of reactive and distributed systems, whose behavior is defined by real-time events. Its main features are possibility to use as a spectrum language from requirement to implementation; suitability for real-time systems; graphical presentation; models based on communication processes; object-oriented description of components.
Glossary
Serializer-Deserealiser. High speed serial interface. SERDES is a transceiver in an integrated circuit used in high-speed communication. It usually consists of a pair of functional blocks which convert parallel data to serial data and vice versa.
International System of Units. SI is the modern metric system of physical quantities that gained world-wide approval. Its advantages are universality and coherence. The system is based on three main measurement units: meter, kilogram and second. It comprises seven basic and two secondary units.
Stereolithography. This is a technology for making articles from materials that polymerize in the result of chemical reactions or have low hardening temperatures. The advantage of this technology is simplicity and short production period of casting accessories from two-component silicones.
Selective Laser Sintering. This technology of rapid prototyping uses powerful laser for layer-by-layer sintering of filler particles and forming in this way volumetric structure. In contrast to other rapid prototyping technologies it allows creating objects from wide spectrum of different materials including polymers (nylon, polyester, glass-nylon composites) and metals (steel, titanium, alloys).
Solid Modeling. The technology of CAD projecting that helps creating parameter-oriented models of products, ready for further prototyping and manufacturing of master-models and press-molds.
System on Chip. Complex integrated scheme that contains all basic functional elements of end product.
Stereolithography. Most developed and most precise technology of rapid prototyping. It is based on the principle of polymerization of photopolymerizational composition under laser emission. With the help of this technology three-dimensional object projected on computer is grown from photopolymerizational composition by consecutive thin (0,1-0,2 mm) layers, formed under laser emission on mobile platform immersed into the bath with photopolymerizational composition.
Super-Twisted Nematic. STN display is a type of monochrome liquid crystal display. In comparison to TFT display it consumes less power, and it is cheaper in manufacturing, but at the same time it has lower resolution and displays fewer colors. Another its disadvantage is smaller viewing angle.
