Development of Church Video Streaming Services

Project in Nutshell: Promwad's engineering team developed a turnkey solution for church live video streaming services, including PTZ wireless network cameras, a network video (NV) platform, and mobile and web applications. This helped the church attract a new audience: in the first six months, online church streaming services reached an average of 1,000 viewers per session.

Client & Challenge

Our client, a large urban church, is prominent in the religious community and is known for its active congregation and extensive outreach programmes.

The church faced a challenge: despite a solid physical presence, its digital engagement was minimal. The COVID-19 pandemic and global digitalisation revealed the need for online church streaming.

The church wanted to communicate remotely with the congregation and expand its audience worldwide. Still, its outdated broadcasting system, consisting only of basic recording equipment, did not support church live video streaming services — this limited interaction with members who could not attend in person, especially older adults and those overseas.

Solution

After thoroughly analysing the church's needs and infrastructure, we developed a comprehensive solution consisting of a PTZ wireless network camera system, a network video (NV) platform, and a customised mobile application.

1. Software Development

How the solution works:

Audio and video (AV) streams from PTZ cameras and microphones are broadcast to a cloud-based media server, which stores and distributes the content.

Middleware manages subscriber access and control, interacting with an administrator panel that allows system management. Audio-visual streams are accessed via a multi-platform web player that provides compatibility with various platforms, including iOS, Android, WebOS, Tizen, Android TV, and FireTV.

Mobile app development was a critical component of our solution. We designed a user-friendly interface for easy navigation and interaction. Key features of the app include:

  • church video streaming of services;
  • access to past sermons;
  • donation integration;
  • event calendars;
  • chat with parishioners.

Business Value

The introduction of PTZ cameras, the NV platform and the mobile app allowed the church to maintain a sense of community and connection with its members despite physical distance. In addition, the enhanced digital presence has helped the church attract new members worldwide, expanding its reach.

Here are the results our client has achieved in 6 months of using the church video system so far:

  • about 1,000 viewers per session joined live streams;
  • the church mobile app downloads increased by 300%;
  • their web platform traffic increased by 200%.

Live streaming platforms for churches are just one example of how PTZ cameras can be combined with mobile and web-based platforms to broadcast and reach new audiences. These solutions can be adapted to broadcast sports and entertainment events, monitor construction sites or organise remote education.
